SITE INFORMATION / COOKIES

Cookie policy.

What the website stores in your browser and what happens if that changes.

Last updated: 26 October 2026

The current site is designed for reading, without built-in advertising or analytics trackers. The following sections explain the local setting we use, what we do not install and how to review your choices.

1. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small piece of information that a website can store in a browser and receive when the browser makes later requests. Websites can also remember choices using local storage or other technologies built into a browser. They are not technically the same thing, but rules about storing or reading information on a device can apply to both.

Some technologies are needed to deliver a service a visitor requests, such as maintaining a secure session. Others are optional, including certain analytics or advertising functions. The purpose of a technology matters more than its name when deciding what information or choice should be provided.

2. What the supplied website stores

The Sport Focus code supplied in this archive uses a small item in the browser's localStorage called sf_privacy_notice. It contains the value acknowledged after a visitor clicks “Got it” on our privacy notice. This prevents the same banner from opening on every page or refresh. The value does not contain the visitor's name, email address or individual reading history.

Because it is stored locally, this acknowledgement normally remains until the visitor removes the site data, changes browser profile or uses the footer option to reopen the notice. It is not an account identifier and it is not sent to us by an analytics service. Its purpose is to remember a simple display choice, not to measure behaviour or target advertising.

3. Storage overview

ItemPurposeType and duration
sf_privacy_noticeRemembers dismissal of the on-page privacy message.Browser local storage; until removed from the browser.
Advertising / analytics scriptsNot installed in the supplied site code.No first-party tracking item supplied.
Host-managed security itemsMay be present only if configured by a hosting or security provider.Provider-dependent; verify on the live domain.

This table describes the website files in this package. Your live web server, content delivery network or email service may operate additional technology. Check the deployed website and amend the table whenever an actual item is introduced.

4. Optional tracking and consent

The supplied version does not intentionally install advertising pixels, social media trackers, behavioural profiling tags or analytics cookies. The acknowledgement banner is therefore an information notice, not a toggle that enables optional trackers. Clicking it does not authorise or activate advertising scripts.

If the website later adds non-essential cookies or similar storage, the operator should explain their purposes clearly and implement an appropriate consent mechanism before those technologies are used, subject to applicable rules and exceptions. Users should be able to make a genuine choice. A privacy-policy link alone is not a substitute for consent where consent is required.

5. Managing your browser settings

You can reopen the site's privacy message by selecting “Privacy preferences” in the footer. You can also remove local site data through the privacy or site-settings controls in your browser. The steps vary by browser and device, but most provide tools for clearing cookies and stored website data for a particular domain.

Deleting stored data may cause the notice to appear again. Blocking every type of storage can affect how a website remembers preferences or operates, although the educational articles in this supplied edition remain available without a personal profile or login.

6. Other sites and external links

Some articles link to external sources for general information. Following a link takes you to a separate website that can set its own cookies or use other storage technologies, subject to its policies. Sport Focus does not control those services.

Similarly, the provider used to host a published site may deploy security or performance controls that do not appear in the PHP, CSS or JavaScript files included in the archive. An operational cookie review should consider the finished live domain rather than relying solely on a source-code inspection.

7. Changes and further information

We will revise this notice if the site's storage behaviour changes. That includes introducing analytics, embedded media, advertising technology or other integrations. The date at the top shows when this text was last updated.

For more information about the handling of personal enquiries, see the Privacy Policy. Questions can be sent to [email protected]. General guidance on cookies and similar technologies is available from the Information Commissioner's Office.
